The Senate’s official gatekeeper, said the Drudge Report, a conservative news aggregator, and whitepages.com “are responsible for the many viruses popping up throughout the Senate,” according to an e-mail to the Environment and Public Works Committee.

In the very body sworn to protect and defend the Constitution, an e-mail is circulating warning U.S. Senate staffers not to view one of the most popular news sites on the Web, claiming it could spread computer viruses.

The Senate Sergeant-at-Arms, the chamber’s official gatekeeper, said the Drudge Report, a  news aggregator, and whitepages.com, a telephone directory site, “are responsible for the many viruses popping up throughout the Senate,” according to an e-mail from the Environment and Public Works Committee obtained by FoxNews.com.

Another e-mail from a separate office warned that staffers who had visited the Drudge Report or White Pages had experienced viruses on their PCs. “Please avoid using these sites until the Senate resolves this issue,” the e-mail read. “The Senate has been swamped the last couples of days with this issue.”

But the Drudge Report suggested that politics might be behind the warning, noting in an original story that the e-mail came as the “health care drama in the Capitol reaches a grand finale.” The Drudge Report noted that it served more than 29 million pages Monday without an e-mail complaint about “‘pop ups,’ or the site serving ‘viruses. The site was seen 149,967 times since March 1st from users at senate.gov and 244,347 times at house.gov. [10,825 visits from the White House, eop.gov]” the Drudge Report wrote.

Sensing that there is a full court press on to advance the healthcare bill, others are taking note.

Major business groups say President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul is a job killer, and they’re launching a multimillion-dollar ad campaign to take that message to voters. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the National Association of Manufacturers, and groups ranging from contractors to retailers said Tuesday the Democratic health care bills would raise their expenses, while failing to control health care costs.

Advertisements will start airing nationwide Wednesday on cable television and shift in a few days to 17 states, targeting moderate and conservative Democrats whose votes are critical to passing the bill in the House. The campaign is estimated to cost between $4 million and $10 million, with the insurance industry paying part of the cost.

President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton met respectively with the Dalai Lama in Washington on Thursday. This event comes only a few weeks after the US government has closed a major arms deal with Taiwan. China had repeatedly and strongly denounced the meeting and called for the US government to cancel the arrangements. The warnings could not have been clearer:

“We urge the US to fully grasp the high sensitivity of Tibet-related issues, to prudently and appropriately deal with related matters, and avoid bringing further damage to China-US relations.”

It may therefore not come as a big surprise that now Chinese Vice-Foreign Minister Cui Tiankai has summoned the US ambassador to talks regarding the issue. This has the potential to become a very major setback, the aftertaste of which may last for quite a while.

I generally agree that countries should be able to receive whichever guests they like. In this case however, I question the purpose of the meeting. Does Obama really need to meet the Dalai Lama that badly and thereby directly provoke the Chinese government?

Considering the United States’ dependence to Sino-American trade, I see a very thin line between what appears to be pridefully standing up for liberal American values and mere recklessness. The US may be gambling with the fact that said dependence works both ways – but why take the risk? Perhaps it is not too farfetched to believe that Obama is trying to divert attention from recent events that have put him in the light of not following the ideals that he is suddenly pursuing so ambitiously?

In the headlines, the Supreme Court yesterday struck down the silly McCain-Feingold Act on campaign reform, a piece of legislation that was patently unconstitutional from the moment of its inception. McCain’s Folly, as I called it, was instrumental in his own defeat by the Obamessiah. The Supreme Court agreed that it limits free speech, and is therefore no longer enforceable.

Whilst you and I have been cutting back, and are soon to start paying a bunch of heinous new taxes, goverment workers are having many a party on your dimes. It seems the Obama people are not enforcing controls on how the government does business, and that government workers are now acting as though they are the new and improved AIG.

Watchdog groups who easily found out such information in the past are being stonewalled by the Obama people, who don’t like to admit that they have champagne tastes and caviar dreams. They also like first class airfare, 5 star hotels, and as much golf as they can get in on some of the nation’s top courses.

Nancy Pants said yesterday that she doesn’t have the votes to pass health care reform out of the House, and that there will be no rush.

John Edwards admitted what everyone has known for two years, that he is the father of a baby born to a campaign aide. But stay tuned, because he may be the father of more than one.

The Justice Department is exerting executive priviledge in the Black Panther voter fraud case, refusing to release memo’s between the Attorney General and staffers.

Obama is busy this morning trying to become a populist by trashing the banks, who have repaid his money but can’t seem to shake his hand off their ass.

But the most important story of the day is that the military is coming under intense fire for trying to court martial 3 Navy Seals for punching a terrorist in the stomach. 100,000 people have signed up for a Facebook page, “Support The Navy Seals Who Captured Ahmed Hashim Abed.”

I have written about this story twice before, and the Chief Jackass in Charge, Army Major General C.T. Cleveland, who should turn in his fatigues, and order a dress. He is a politically correct moron, who can’t seem to figure out who the enemy is. (Now we all know who is helping him…I think he’s called Commander Dithers, who never met an Arab he couldn’t bow to.)

The Defense Department is now employing every slime dog trick in the book to get someone to talk, and if the Big Kahuna was in charge, there would be quite a number of forced retirements among the officer class. The General is feeling the heat, and felt it necessary to cry to Congressman Dan Burton, who rejected his reasoning out of hand.

Keep your eye on this case, and send letters to your Congressman and Senators, who just might be listening a little better after Tuesday.

You don’t send a Seal Team out to capture a killer with daisies. And if the sumbitch gets a little bruised up he can thank Allah he isn’t dead. Because if it had been me…I think my weapon may have misfired due to a manufacturing problem. Because as my longtime Rushkie friend says, “Dead terrorists tell no tales.”

Every President has a unique style of speaking and dealing with issues. Barack Obama recently gave his first State of the Union address. In listening to him speak about all the problems the country faces in 2010, it brought to mind the early days of the presidency of George Bush and his early speeches when he had to deal with the worst attack against the United States homeland in its history and the prospect of an uncertain future where the seemingly invulnerable United States was now facing the very real possibility of additional attacks. What if George Bush’s style was more like the style of Barack Obama? What if the two Presidents could be merged and you could create a new President by the name of George W.H. Obama. It is early 2002. Ladies and gentlemen, the President of the United States…

President George Obama: Mr. Speaker, Mr. Vice President, members of Congress, distinguished guests, and fellow citizens: America this evening is a nation called to great responsibilities. And we are rising to meet them. In the normal course of events, Presidents come to this chamber to report on the state of the Union. My fellow citizens, the entire world has seen for itself the state of our Union — and it is strong. We have seen it in the courage of passengers, who rushed terrorists to save others on the ground; we have seen it in the endurance of rescuers, working past exhaustion. We have seen the unfurling of flags, the giving of blood, the saying of prayers. We are a country awakened to danger and called to defend freedom. Our grief has turned to anger, and anger to resolution. Whether we bring our enemies to justice, or bring justice to our enemies, justice will be done.

One year ago, I took office amid an underfunded military and a depleted and dispirited CIA. High level security agencies lacked the ability to share information. We were attacked in 1993 in New York’s World Trade Center and the previous administration handled it as if it were a bank robbery, rather than an act of war. We were attacked at Khobar Towers and the previous administration again looked at it as an isolated incident. 17 sailors were killed and 39 were injured when two members of Al-Qaeda blew up their small craft next to the USS Cole in Yemen — President Clinton’s response? He said “Their tragic loss reminds us that even when America is not at war, the men and women of our military still risk their lives for peace. ” Not at war President Clinton? You may not have been at war with them but they were certainly at war with us. How many acts of terrorism would it take for the previous administration to wake up to the danger? Even when our soldiers suffered the humiliating indignity of being dragged through the streets of Mogadishu, President Clinton continued to treat terrorist attacks as if they were no worse than a robbery at a local deli.

We had at least four known documented opportunities to capture or kill Osama bin Laden and the previous administration turned it down. As for Iraq, I know that many of you in this chamber are apprehensive about the possibility of going to war there. I have to remind our distinguished members of congress that if the previous administration did not show weakness and allow weapons inspectors to be thrown out of Iraq, we would not have lost years of intelligence gathering and we might not be in the position now where war is necessary.

In short, we inherited a disastrous mess from the previous administration. A year later, however, we have taken action and have corrected some of the horrific mistakes of the last eight years. We have removed the wall of separation between various intelligence gathering agencies that proved so ineffective in dealing with terrorism. We have taken terrorists off the battle field and not treated them as common criminals but as the enemy combatants that they are. We have housed them in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba where the military can interrogate them and get the needed information to prevent future attacks. Our goal not being one to simply punish those caught committing acts of terrorism, but to prevent future attacks. We will use common sense intelligence gathering, not all of which that can be revealed for obvious reasons.

There is a fine line between trampling the rights of individual citizens and common sense surveillance. Let’s remember where the blame for this lies. We are reacting to the real threat posed by terrorists who are obsessed with destroying our country. The ineffective and irresponsible way that Washington has dealt with this problem over the last eight years has made certain procedures necessary in order to protect the country. Because of the reckless and irresponsible behavior of Washington, we are forced to allocate money to a brand new office – The Office of Homeland Security. We need to upgrade procedures and computer systems of our Intelligence gathering organizations and we will need to increase funding for the military to make up for the funding shortages of the last eight years. This is a tremendous expenditure that I would rather not have to make but thanks to the previous administration, I have no choice.

Because of all the money we now have to spend on security, coupled with the recession that we inherited, we will need to spend much of the budget surplus. Let me make this perfectly clear. The budget surplus was built on a house of cards. There was a new medium — the internet — that busted out during the previous administration. The Dot Com companies created a lot of investment in an unpredictable, untested environment. Their failure was inevitable. Their business practices were shabby and wasteful. Coupled with the tragic cuts to the military and to our intelligence services, the budget surplus of the previous administration was bound to end. You can only put paper clips and rubber bands on the military and the economy for so long before you need to go in and spend the money you need to really fix things, which my administration is prepared to do.

With all the problems that I inherited from the previous administration, I sometimes wake up in the middle of the night and say to my lovely wife Laura Michelle, “Oy Gevalt! What have I gotten myself into!” But for the good of the nation I will trudge on. For the nation needs me now more than ever. I am the President. I won the election. I am Commander-In-Chief, the leader of the free world. I am George Obama.

I n fact, the economic problems that we inherited are on the verge of being solved. I am going to cut taxes which will cause investment opportunities. I predict that due to these tax cuts the unemployment rate will drop by the mid 2000s to a miniscule 4.5% so that despite the increased spending on the security of our country, made necessary by the previous administration, we will still manage to revive the economy and keep our country safe at the same time.

Let us not forget what happened on September 11, 2001. It is my fear that as the decades go by and this horrific event fades into the past, we may be lured into the same false sense of security that got us in trouble in the first place. We weren’t attacked for anything we did, we were attached because of the values we espouse, and these are good values. They are not values to be ashamed of. They are values worth defending and we must be vigilant in defending them.

It is my hope that in the months and years ahead, life will return almost to normal. We’ll go back to our lives and routines, and that is good. Even grief recedes with time and grace. But our resolve must not pass. Each of us will remember what happened that day, and to whom it happened. We’ll remember the moment the news came — where we were and what we were doing. Some will remember an image of a fire, or a story of rescue. Some will carry memories of a face and a voice gone forever.

The course of this conflict is not known, yet its outcome is certain. Freedom and fear, justice and cruelty, have always been at war, and we know that God is not neutral between them. Fellow citizens, we’ll meet violence with patient justice — assured of the rightness of our cause, and confident of the victories to come. In all that lies before us, may God grant us wisdom, and may He watch over the United States of America.

President Obama might actually have several of his namesake watches. During the campaign, at the request of the Democratic Party, Goldenberg handed then-Senator Obama five watches at an exclusive 30-person fundraiser in Philadelphia. Does this mean the Democrats are done and health care reform is dead — not at all. What it probably really means is for the first time in a year, Republicans and Democrats will have to work together to pass legislation. This means there could be real bipartisan solutions discussed and aimed at getting the economy back on its feet. It could mean coming up with health care reform that will have input from both sides of the isle. The idea of Democrats ramming through an unpopular bill and the Republicans blocking it at every opportunity should now end. The fact of the matter is, this was probably the best thing that could have happened for all of us. The American people did not give the Democrats an unconditional green light to do what ever they pleased because they won big in the general election. They voted for change because they believed the direction the country was going under, President Bush, needed changing. However, I do not believe the change that the far left was attempting to initiate was what they were expecting or wanted.

The President was elected because he campaigned as a person who would govern from the center, a person who would reach across the isle to work out differences, a person who would promote transparency when debating policy, a person that would eliminate pork barrel spending and block lobby influence. Instead, we were getting far left policy with no attempt to work on a bipartisan basis, important policy discussion behind closed doors, large entitlement spending and an ever present lobby influence. But it is clear the President has also received the message. He and his administration appear to be working diligently on damage control. Focusing on the economy, the budget, Wall Street reform and other important issues Americans are demanding be fixed.

Was Massachusetts a great victory for Republicans? Not really. They still are no where close to a majority in either house and their policies must be modified to accommodate the American people. Their party is fragmented by the ultra-conservative Tea Party movement at odds with moderate Republicans. And if they don’t take this opportunity to show the American people they can come up with good programs that will help this country recover from a terrible economy (through fiscal responsibility), support ending two unpopular middle eastern wars, and work with the President and Democrats, they will lose a great opportunity to prove they are more capable of governing than their counterparts.

Health care reform is alive if both parties get together and develop good solutions. If Representative Pelosi and Senator Reed attempt to railroad HR3200 through Congress with minimal change, one or two things might happen, the bill may not pass and/or Democrats will suffer tremendous losses in the 2010 and 2012 elections.

The bottom line? No significant reconciliation between the battling parties is evident yet. But there may be room for compromise on some issues.

Obama, forced to refocus his agenda in response to voter anger over the high jobless rate in an election year, opened a new search for common ground after spending his first year relying largely on Democrats to push his agenda forward.

With healthcare stalled after the election of a Republican senator from Massachusetts created a subtle shift in power in the Senate, Obama switched gears, giving secondary roles to priorities like healthcare and climate change.

In his State of the Union address, he dangled some tempting treats to Republicans: more nuclear power plants and offshore drilling, more U.S. exports and small business tax credits.

“He moved center-right,” said presidential historian Douglas Brinkley. “Instead of bailouts and stimulus money being thrown at the economy, the reset is going to be government working for big infrastructure projects, to get Republicans and corporate support.”

Republicans did make some encouraging noises.

“It was welcome news that the president was for more offshore drilling, more domestic production of oil and gas. I don’t think I’ve heard the president be more forceful when it comes to the expansion of nuclear energy in the United States,” said the Republican leader in the U.S. House of Representatives, John Boehner.

And Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell liked the focus on jobs.

“The president and I agree on the need to meet in the middle to find bipartisan agreement to grow jobs,” he said.

But Republicans who have managed a comeback from the political graveyard by resisting Obama were intrigued only to a point.

They hope they can convert voter disenchantment with Obama into big gains against Democrats in November congressional elections, and have little inclination to help a man they feel blames them for most of what ails America.

“Republicans are wary,” said Norman Ornstein, a political analyst at the American Enterprise Institute. “They don’t want to cooperate if they can avoid it because they’ve gone from oblivion to a solid, strong position by being completely uncooperative in the last year.”

Obama, addressing a crowd in Tampa, Florida, on Thursday, denounced what he called the “you win, I lose” mentality that he said Republicans are practicing.

“I mean, that can’t be a platform. Even if you disagree with me on some specific issues, all of us should be rooting for each other — all of us should be rooting for America and solving problems,” he said.

Hammering home that point showed he is mindful that independent voters who helped elect him but have been leaving him in droves and that he needs to entice them back.

Obama has a long way to go to convince the other side to the dance floor.

David Dreier, a Republican House member, said he cannot remember a more partisan State of the Union speech, criticizing Obama for “looking over to us and saying to us that, rather than listening to the polls, we should ‘do what’s right.”

In the end, however, Ornstein said he thinks Republicans will move Obama’s way on a limited basis to address the “Party of No” label that Democrats try to pin on them.

“A lot of them are growing nervous that the ‘Party of No’ image of obstructionism will stick,” he said.

Final negotiations on merging the bills began in earnest Wednesday as congressional leaders spent more than eight hours behind closed doors at the White House using a process that bypasses a formal conference committee and cuts out Republican participation.

They dug into a series of sticky issues that separate the two versions of the bill passed by the House and the Senate — including abortion, access to health insurance by illegal immigrants, and how to pay for the sweeping legislation, which will insure an estimated 37 million Americans over the next decade.

A White House statement said they had made “significant progress in bridging the remaining gaps” between the bills.

Republicans have been howling about the process for nearly two weeks — House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, called it “a breeding ground for more of the kickbacks” — but now congressional leaders are facing a growing mutiny within their own ranks.

Wednesday, Sen. Mark Udall, D-Colo., suggested the talks lacked transparency and called for televising final negotiations. Sen. Michael Bennet, D-Colo., also said final talks should be open to live cameras.

“I haven’t been in Washington long, but one thing I can tell you is this is one town that can use some fresh air, and some real transparency,” Bennet said. “The outcomes from the negotiations on the health care reform bill are far too important to be done behind closed doors.”

Those criticisms could create significant difficulties for efforts to finish the health care bill and move on to other legislation before the press of this year’s election cycle swamps Congress.

Media organizations and others have said televising final negotiations between the House and the Senate would be natural given the enormous potential impact of the legislation.

Instead, Democrats have created a process under which House and Senate leaders will hammer out key compromises, then send the retooled bill to both chambers.

Those negotiations are expected to go for days, if not weeks, and Democratic leaders have said a conference would only provide Republicans — only one of whom voted for the bills in either chamber — a new chance at obstruction.

“This non-conference conference was a bid to speed this up and bring it to an end. A conference committee seemed one more area where Republicans would attack the Democrats and liberals would get upset with leadership,” said Julian Zelizer, an expert on Congress at Princeton University.

“The problem is it looked bad. Republicans can use that to say health care is being rushed through and done behind closed door because Democrats want to hide something,” he said. “That’s why you’re seeing Democrats now getting nervous about the process as well.”

Some believe a president’s approval rating matters a great deal more than many of the political issues that surround the economy.  Obama’s ability to mobilize a powerful voting machine could well turn around his popularity and produce rabbits out of the hat in 2012 but such theatrical stunts are disapproved by Obama’s competitors and supporters alike.

President Obama’s first year in office has consistently been profiled as a baptism of fire, with socialized healthcare predicted to bankrupt the country by murdering an already ailing economy.  Obama’s stubborn, blinkered refusal to listen to the more affluent voting sections of America who hollered and loud speakered their objections to his public health plan have cost votes and seats, with more radical ‘politicats’ even dramatically calling for taking back congress!

By putting the sick and elderly on waiting lists and wafting disastrous Cap and Trade policies like so much putrid incense, the Democratic administration risks losing everything in the run up to 2012.  It is predicted that numbers will gradually sink and slide and even Obama’s Teflon-like coating will begin to absorb the possibility that these policies are not what the nation wants or expects from presidential leadership.

Blaming Gee Dubbya on every little thing that goes wrong is also not going to fool anyone with a modicum of voting intelligence.  There comes a time when policies must stand on their own merit and not be assigned to the vagaries of previous administrations every time they fail.  As unemployment continues to peak at almost 10%, the country demands an employment strategy that will fix stuff rather than make sympathetic noises in the ears of voters who do not pay the lion’s share of the nation’s tax bill.

With a downward slide predicted prior to 2012, President Obama is being urged to plaster over some of the cracks appearing in the voting fraternity at an alarming rate.  The White House message that conveys the sentiment, ‘You will have this whether you want it or not’, is unlikely to win favor with hard working Americans with bottomless pockets who are expected to find more cash to sponsor health care reforms in an already stretched economy.

In the first months of the year, Obama is still being labelled a ‘one trick pony’, faring badly whenever challenged in debate by either Palin or McCain; challenged in the press as a president who changes nothing yet says anything to win, whatever that might be.

Obama’s popularity is all important to victory in 2012 yet might also represent for Democrats their worst hurdle if policy continues to fail in terms of results.  An apologetic foreign policy and an inadequate and ineffective policy on terrorism wraps up the reason why many well heeled, affluent and professional Americans are understandably ticked off at the start of a new decade on Capitol Hill.

Forty-eight percent (48%) of voters now give the President poor marks for handling the economy.That’s the highest negative rating yet recorded. Seventy-percent (70%) of Republicans give the President poor marks in this area along with 54% of unaffiliated voters.

Overall, just 36% voters say he’s doing a good or an excellent job on economic matters. Sixty-eight percent (68%) of Democrats hold that view.

When it comes to national security matters, 39% say he’s doing a good or an excellent job while 38% say poor. Thirty-one percent (31%) give the government good or excellent marks for its response to the Christmas Day bombing attempt.

The Presidential Approval Index is calculated by subtracting the number who Strongly Disapprove from the number who Strongly Approve. It is updated daily at 9:30 a.m. Eastern (sign up for free daily e-mail update). Updates are also available on Twitter and Facebook.
